Process
Interviews with Target Audiences & Validating Problems
By analyzing qualitative feedback and behavioral patterns, I identified recurring pain points and validated unmet needs, shaping the foundation for my design decisions. Additionally, data analysis helped validate trends and refine our focus on the most impactful solutions.
Insight 01
Health Management Challenges
Detection delay
Unprepared condition
Preventive regret
Wellness uncertainty
Insight 02
Daily Care Routines
Schedule juggling
Lack of consistency
Activity balance
Behavior confusion
To represent pet parent's diverse needs, I made 2 personas based on experience level, lifestyle, and care habits.

2.1 - User Personas: Sarah & Aaron

Map Out Key Features & Defining Structure
The information architecture ensured a logical flow between features and functionalities, creating a scalable foundation for future enhancements.

2.2 - Initial Site Map
IMAGE
To streamline usability, I developed a simplified user flow and low-fi prototype that integrates health records, treatments, and medications into a unified system which allow users to track their pet’s medical history, manage prescriptions, and monitor ongoing treatments in one place.

2.2.1 - User Flow: Check Health Record
IMAGE & VIDEO
With the low-fi prototype in place, I conducted usability testing with users who passed the screener questions to evaluate the design’s effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Discarded

1
The phrase ”[Pet Name] is not feeling well” could make users feel guilty about their pet, leading them to hesitate in using the feature 😥
2
The 2 horizontal buttons disrupted eye flow and making the interface feel disjointed 🤨
3
The multiple articles under Health Record were inconvenient to access 😔
Optimized

1
Reworded to encourage users to engage with the feature without fear of judgment
2
Adjusted to a consistent vertical format for better readability
3
Relocated the Beginner’s Guide button to the top of the screen and organized all articles into a single section
2.2.2 - Design Iteration: Health Management
IMAGE

1
Prioritizing Key Information that pet parents care about:
Diagnosis – Clear documentation of identified conditions
Treatments – Actionable care plans recommended by vets
Medications – Accurate tracking of prescribed drugs and dosages
2
Logging Suspicious Symptoms allowing users to monitor changes and identify patterns
3
Monitoring Mode that can be toggle on or off, allows users to actively track a specific symptom
2.2.3 - Design Ideation: Health Record
IMAGE
The original AI Assistant entry positioned as a floating button in the bottom-right corner above the navigation bar. This button will also pop up insights or suggestions in a speech bubble to engage users
However, according to the feedback from testing, I identified 2 main issues about this design:
1
Visual Clutter: user found the floating button and pop-up bubble intrusive, sometimes blocking other components & buttons 😦
2
Disrupted Navigation Flow: The placement made it feel disconnected from the rest of the interface, leading to lower engagement than expected ☹️
Discarded

Design Iteration:
1
Relocating the AI Assistant Entry: the AI assistant was integrated into the main navigation as a dedicated tab, ensuring an accessible entry point without obstructing content
2
Refining Insights Delivery: The insights are now indicated with a red dot notification badge. Users can access them at their convenience without intrusive interruptions
3
Enhancing Discoverability: The AI assistant now subtly integrates into contextual interactions, offering suggestions based on user actions rather than appearing randomly

Building a Style Guide & Scalable Design System
To ensure consistency and efficiency, I developed a scalable design system that provides a unified visual language across the product.
Primary: For the most prominent components across the UI, such as the FAB, high-emphasis buttons, and active states.

Secondary: For less prominent components in the UI such as label chips.

Danger: For showing negative feedback/status or dangerous actions.

Text & Icon: Applied frequently for text and icons.

Neutral: For backgrounds, surfaces, dividers, and outlines.

Next Steps: Refining the Pet Care Guide Library
Based on user interviews, I identified a strong need for preventive, updated, and reliable pet health information.
Pet Parents Demographics

To accommodate these needs, I structured the Pet Care Guide into three categories:
Resources for all pets – Covers common health topics
🐶 Dog-specific Resources – Focuses on breed-specific care, training, and canine health concerns.
🐱 Cat-specific Resources – Includes feline-specific wellness, behavior, and nutrition advice
As the product evolves, my focus will be on expanding content, improving personalization, and enhancing species-specific support to better serve diverse pet parents.
